Excitement is high as our community completes final preparations for the 2017 Seaside Festival. Thank you to Martine Siltman (TPSA Chair) and our hard working SSF committee for the many hours they have invested into ensuring this year’s event will be an outstanding success. A huge thank you also to our teachers and students, for their efforts in preparing stall items and activities for this major fundraiser. I know that there are still some classes requiring parent volunteers. Please check in with your child’s teacher to see if you can help out!
2018 Class Structures
Over the past few weeks, teachers and the School Leadership Team have been discussing class structures for 2018, taking into consideration the number of students within each year level, the educational and social and emotional needs of students across each year level and the balance between boys and girls across the school.
Our 2018 class structures have now been decided. In addition to our two Kindergarten and two Prep classes, we will have the following composite classes in 2018:
- 4 x Grade 1-2
- 4 x Grade 3-4, and
- 4 x Grade 5-6
The location of Kindergarten and Prep classes remains unchanged for 2018. The remaining classes will be located as follows:
- 2 x 1-2 classes in ECE block (current Y1)
- 2 x 1-2 classes in Middle block (current Y3)
- 3 x 3-4 classes in the rooms on the quadrangle side of top block (current 2P, 4-5PD & 4C)
- 1 x 3-4 on walkway near the GP/Music Room (current 1-2G)
- 2 x 5-6 in Middle Block (current Y6)
- 2 x 5-6 classes in Top Block (current 4-5Mc & 4-5GS)
The teachers assigned to the grade groupings will be announced later in the term, when staffing and class placements are finalised. As per usual processes, children will meet their “new teacher” and spend time in their “new classroom” during the last week of Term 4. Please note that all class placement requests (see last week’s newsletter for full details) are due by Friday 10 November.
I am very pleased to announce that Mrs Alanna Carne will be transferring to TPS from the start of 2018. Alannah is coming to us from Lansdowne Crescent Primary where she has been teaching for the past 11 years. We look forward to welcoming Alanna to our 2018 teaching team.

Division A Interschool Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all students who participated in this carnival on Monday 30 October. Taroona came a credible 6th, up against some tough competition. Thank you to all parents who came along to support our students on the day and to Mrs Broadbent and Miss Hyland for coordinating the team. Students who received a ribbon at the carnival are listed here.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL INFORMATION
Before School Care
Before School Care is up and running. If you need care for your child at school before 8.30am, please contact Lady Gowrie: 6230 6864 / firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost of Before School Care is $14 full fee for the session however, most families are eligible for Child Care Benefit which would reduce the cost of this program. Depending on family income the cost of care would range from $3.00-$14.00 per session (1 Hour 7.30am- 8.30am). Please note that early arrivals are being monitored and families will be contacted where necessary, to discuss before school care arrangements for children who continue to arrive before supervision begins at 8.30am.
Our school is proud to join with the National Disability Insurance Australia in raising awareness about the NDIS and helping our students, and people with disability, their families and carers, and our school community get ready to join the Scheme when it comes into our area.
An information session will be held on Wednesday 15th November at 3.10pm at our school for all interested parents / carers. Please RSVP by Friday 10th November to email@example.com or 62278325.
Congratulations to Laura. S (Y6) on her selection in the Under 12 State Cricket Team to play in the School Sports Cricket Championships between 5-12 January 2018 in Barooga, NSW.

So much has been happening in middle block. 3H has certainly been enjoying a diverse range of learning opportunities and experiences. The ‘Museum of Everything Hobart’ exhibition was created, and displayed across the Team Three classrooms and visited by our buddy classes.
We went on excursions to be audiences for musical productions of the ‘Hare and the Tortoise’ and ‘Hopsalot’ which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were complimented on our excellent audience behaviour and etiquette.
A visit by The Shell Questacon Science Circus was a terrific opportunity for us to experience science using everyday objects. For Science in our classroom, we conducted an experiment growing mould on bread and recording and investigating fascinating results.
The Australian War Memorial Teaching Box visited our classroom and we donned white gloves to handle items from World War 1.
In Literacy we have been writing Spooky Cinquains and writing letters introducing ourselves to our new penpals in picturesque Trento, Italy. We are looking forward to receiving our replies!

Lady Gowrie Taroona Before and After School Hours Care – Taking 2018 Enrolments NOW.
Lady Gowrie Taroona After School Care operates from the hall each school day from 7.30-8.30am (Before School Care) and 3.00-6.00pm (After School Care) where we cater for children aged 4-12 year olds. We offer a safe and stimulating environment based on the children’s interests incorporating both indoor and outdoor play. We employ trained Educators and provide a nutritious breakfast and afternoon tea each day. To enrol we require families to complete a 2018 enrolment form prior to care commencing. Child Care Benefit is available to eligible families and all families meeting a work/study requirement are entitled to 50% off all on costs. Summer Vacation Care
We will also be taking bookings shortly for the up and coming school holidays. If you would like to see a copy of the Vacation care program please send an email to the above email address.
To ensure the safety of our school property, please ring Crime Stoppers if you see anyone acting suspiciously in our school grounds.

Banking is on Thursdays and bank books are returned to students on Friday (along with Sushi orders).
Uniform Shop News
Term 4 is here, and that means hats are compulsory! Come and get yours from the Uniform Shop.
We are open Tuesdays 2:45 – 3:15 under the staffroom. If you can’t make this time, place an order at the office for collection the following Wednesday morning.

Term 4 has seen the introduction of Sushi Wednesdays for our Kinder classes, it has been great to introduce the students to the Sushi fundraising program and they have embraced the opportunity to have a healthy and different option for lunch. Well done to both classes and their teachers!
I have been so impressed with the number of families that have prepaid for the term and the students who are trying a variety of Sushi fillings. The surprise favourite at the moment is the humble Inari, a delicious pillow of rice with sesame seeds stuffed into a tasty tofu pocket!

Duty of Care
Please note that students are not to arrive before 8.30am. This is for the students’ protection and safety as there are no teachers on duty prior to 8.30am and classrooms remain locked until this time. Supervision is provided before and after school:
- Playground (EXCLUDING CREEK PLAYGROUND & OVAL) 8.30am to 8.55am
- Car park & bus area 2.50pm to 3.05pm
